There are countless numbers of events and things to see and explore in Dalvík and the surrounding area. A lot can be found related to nature and outdoor activities like hiking, whale- and bird watching, sports like golf, swimming and skiing in winter time. Horse back riding, a nice local museum, a birdland exibition and ferry trips to Grímsey and Hrísey islands. Next door are the towns of Ólafsfjörður (18km) and Siglufjörður (33km) in the west and Akureyri (45km) south of Dalvík. Farther west are Hólar and Hofsós. About 1.5 hours drive east you find Lake Mývatn with volcanoes, lava, craters, waterfalls and bubbling mud pots as well as the popular Mývatn Nature Baths.

Dalvík ski area
Dalvík ski club runs a small but nice ski area just above Dalvík town. Normally open until May each year, starting from November/Desember...sometimes earlier.
Gather the sheep
Farmers gather their flocks in the autumn. Usually, the round-up is carried out on horseback with assistance of sheepdogs.
The process can take up to a week. During this time, participants stay overnight in mountain huts located throughout the highlands. Each sheep farmer has his own earmark in order to identify his livestock. Join us to take part in this yearly event or just come and watch the final event.
Dalvík surroundings are great area for birding/bird watchers. Svarfaðardalur nature reserve, 8 sqkm, along the Svarfaðardalur river offers two huts and countless possibilities of watching birds.

Dalvík swimming pool offers a warm pool (29.5°C), hot tubs and shallow pool. Steam bath, solarium, gym and access to a sports hall.

On the Arctic Circle, 66° 33′ 44″, about 66 km (36 Nau. miles) from Dalvík. Three hours with the ferry Sæfari, sailing three days a week. In the summer Sæfari stays for 4 hours in Grímsey on each trip. Great bird life, uncountable numbers of Puffins, very nice day trip.
